The
restaurant’s owners, Marcelino and Aparecida Filho,
were born and raised in Brazil. Marcelino completed
his studies at Senac, the culinary school of Sao Paulo,
and later became an instructor. The school is famous
for producing internationally known chefs trained in
European quality cuisine as well as all aspects of restaurant
work and management. Later he was Maitre D’ Hotel
instructor for several well known hotels in Rio De Janeiro
and Sao Paulo such as The Meridian, Rio Palace, and
Caesar Park Hotel in Ipanema. Later in Los Angeles he
worked at the Ivy, Campanile and the Softel Hotel. Marcelino
also lived in France for 6 months to study wine and
French cuisine.
Café
Brasil opened for business January of 1991 bringing
to Los Angeles a quick casual style restaurant that
reflects the diversity of Brazil. For over 13 years
they have artfully blended the exotic flavors of South
America: farofa (yucca flour), Passion fruit, coconut
juice, and fried bananas along with healthy versions
of traditional Brazilian cuisine such as grilled meat,
poultry and fish. Dairy free and vegetarian alternatives
are also available.
